Setting Up Tips and Donations
Why Tips Work
Here's the thing: your audience wants to support you. They ask "how can I help?" but if you don't make it easy, they won't follow through.
Step 1: Enable Tips
Go to Monetization in your dashboard and toggle "Accept Tips" to on. That's it for the basics.
Step 2: Connect Stripe
Click "Connect Stripe" and follow the prompts. If you don't have a Stripe account, creating one takes 5 minutes. Once connected, you can receive payments.
Step 3: Customize Your Button
Don't use the generic "Tip Me" text. Try:
- "Buy me a coffee"
- "Support my work"
- "Fuel the creativity"
Set preset amounts like $3, $5, $10, $25. Start low - you'll get more tips at lower amounts.
Step 4: Promote It
Having a tip button isn't enough. Tell people:
- In your bio: "Love what I share? Tips help me create more"
- After free content: Mention tips when you've just provided value
- Show impact: "Tips help me spend 20 hours/week on tutorials"
How Payments Work
Stripe fees: 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction. A $10 tip nets you $9.41. Money transfers to your bank in 2 days.
Common Mistakes
- Setting amounts too high (start at $3-5)
- Generic messaging (be specific about what tips support)
- Only mentioning it once (remind people periodically)
Pro Tips
- Create tiers: "$3 = awesome, $10 = legend, $25 = hero"
- Add social proof: "Join 147 supporters this month"
- Test your own tip flow to see what supporters experience
